HDW Class 218SG Submarine
The boats of the HDW Class 218SG are the product of years of experience and deep expertise, marking a next generation of customized submarines that has been and is being built in Germany. Together with experts from our customer, we have developed this series of four units – tailor-made for the client’s requirements.
These vessels belong to the most advanced diesel-electric submarines in the world. With a length of approximately 70 meters and a displacement of around 2,000 tonnes, they are currently the largest submarines ever built at thyssenkrupp Marine Systems.
The boats feature numerous customized solutions and state-of-the-art technologies. Their proven air-independent propulsion system enables them to stay submerged for a long duration. The combination of these features reduces their level of detectability considerably. The Type 218SG will possess an extensive range of vital capabilities and therewith become a highly capable strategic asset for our customer and his navy.
