This management company of ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems exists since 1st April 2008. It includes the naval surface vessel part of the former company Blohm + Voss, Hamburg/Germany, and the Nordseewerke, Emden/Germany. Also the naval surface vessels divisions of Hellenic Shipyards in Greece and Kockums in Sweden are related.
The product portfolio of this lead company is especially broad-based, including a wealth of naval surface vessel types as well as specialized craft. Furthermore, as has been already mentioned, deliveries of submarine components also continue to be made from Emden to Kiel.
More than 160 naval vessels, ranging from frigates and corvettes, patrol boats and minesweepers to auxiliary vessels and special-purpose craft have been built by these shipyards since 1980 alone, being delivered to navies across the entire globe.
A large proportion of this work has involved the construction of MEKO frigates and corvettes.
Apart from frigates and corvettes, the shipyards of the TKMS Group have also seen the construction of a number of smaller naval vessels, including a variety of types of patrol boat - both for the domestic navies and for customers worldwide.
TKMS Blohm + Voss Nordseewerke is also positioned strongly regarding special-purpose craft. Examples of special-purpose vessels recently built include the "Vasco da Gama", the world's largest hopper suction dredger as well as the SWATH research vessel "Planet", delivered to the Federal Office for Germanys Defence Technology and Procurement in 2005.
