Customized sizes for particular dedication: Commercial Ships by ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems
The container shipping market is strong, traffic continues to rise, the demand for higher tonnage capacities steady. Many ports, once only accessible to smaller ships, have since been upgraded with better facilities, new berths, new container bridges and deeper waters.
The 1,500-1,700 and 2,200-2,700 TEU ship series (originally designed for the South American liner trade) have proven themselves, with many units in service world wide, to be ideal long distance as well as feedership workhorses. In order to be ahead of the shipping industry’s requirements, ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems launched a research programme in co-operation with owners, operators, brokers and finance companies, resulting in 3,100-3,700 TEU ships that promise extremely good prospects in highly competitive markets.
TKMS Blohm + Voss Nordseewerke has developed, designed and built large SWATHs (Small Waterplane Area Twin Hull) such as the German
Navy research vessel PLANET (with a displacement of 3,500 tons on a LOA of 73 and a beam of 27 m. She has meanwhile proven her concept’s validity, conducting successful research in naval and civilian maritime fields.
The world’s largest hopper suction dredger, the 203.00 meter VASCO DA GAMA built in Emden. This vessel is an excellent example of ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems’ abilities to design and build highly sophisticated merchant ships. VASCO DA GAMA stands out for its high load capacity of 33,000m3, fast intake and discharging capabilities and 60 meter suction dredging depths (which can be increased to 125 meters). VASCO DA GAMA operates worldwide, spectacular projects have been large-scale land reclamation projects in Singapore and "The World" in Dubai.
